If you are using an iPhone 6 or iPhone 7 and have already installed iOS 11 then the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus won’t seem very different from their predecessors but there are a few new interesting features. To help you best use your new device, MobileREMEDIES® iPhone repair experts have prepared some iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus tips and tricks you need to know.

Toggle ‘True Tone’  ON / OFF:

This function was first available on the iPad Pro. “True Tone” is a display technology that Apple has now brought into all of its iOS devices. This feature automatically adjusts the screen image based on lighting conditions, adapting the display colors so that they are consistent in different environments.  To turn “True Tone” ON or OFF, follow these steps:

Go to ‘Settings’:

-> ‘Display and Brightness’ and flip the toggle next to ‘True Tone’.

-> Alternatively, you can swipe up to access the ‘Control Center’, press and hold the brightness slider and you’ll find a quick toggle for ‘True Tone’ and ‘Night Shift’.

Adding Portrait Lighting to your photos:

If you haven’t tried ‘Portrait Mode’ give it a try if you want to take some unique and wonderful pictures. The iPhone 8 Plus also has a new beta feature called ‘Portrait Lighting’. When activated you can choose from five different lighting effects: ‘Natural Light’, ‘Studio Light’, ‘Contour Light’, ‘Stage Light’, and ‘Stage Light Mono’. This new function goes beyond applying filters and uses facial landmarking and a depth map captured by the dual cameras to create these different lighting effects. This technology is a beta release but may well become available to all the other iPhone plus versions.

To start using these effects, open the ‘Camera’ app and tap the ‘Portrait Mode’ next to ‘Photo’. You’ll first see ‘Natural Light’ with some circular logos above the shutter icon. If you hold down and move your finger left through the carousel you can scroll between all the options and you’ll be able to choose one of the effects by tapping on the shutter icon.

MobileREMEDIES® iPhone repair specialists want to remind you that ‘Portrait Mode’ is no longer taking two photos. If you want the photo without the blur effect, you can now simply go to ‘Photos’, choose the ‘Portrait Mode’ photo, tap ‘Edit’, and click on the yellow ‘Portrait’ logo at the top. It will become transparent, meaning the ‘Portrait’ effect has been turned off.

Shooting video with your iPhone 8 in higher resolution:

If you like to take videos there is some good news. Both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have received an upgrade when it comes to video quality. With the iOS 11 upgrade, both devices are now capable of shooting up to 4K at 60 frames per second and 1080p at 240 frames per second for slow motion video. To configure these settings go to:

Settings’-> ‘Camera’ -> ‘Record Video’ and you’ll see a list of options to choose from.

There you’ll also find a separate section to customize the slow motion video settings under “Record Slo-mo“.

MobileREMEDIES® iPhone repair service recommends that you carefully review the different video configurations because each setting has a different resolution and a different file size which will directly impact your device’s memory allocation. The higher the resolution the larger the file size!

Auto Brightness for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 plus and iOS 11 devices:

In iOS 10 and prior versions, you were able to access auto brightness through ‘Settings’ > ‘Display & Brightness’. In this new version, iOS 11, the ‘Auto Brightness’ configuration is found under the ‘Accessibility’ section. To make modifications follow these steps:

Go to ‘Settings

-> ‘Accessibility

-> ‘Display Accommodations’

-> Toggle ‘ON’ ‘Auto-Brightness’.

You can still control normal brightness settings through the ‘Control Center’.
